ImageMany of the librarians, reference assistants and students in the Department of Research & Learning Services have responsibility for supporting the teaching and research mission of the university by providing reference services. We help library patrons find information, select sources for research, design search strategies, and navigate a wide array of electronic and print resources. We also assist patrons in evaluating and using information resources, and we provide technical support for their computing needs in the library

Reference service is available on a walk-in basis at the reference desk in Olin Library. 

In-depth research assistance is provided through an appointment-based Research Consultation Service.

We can also be contacted on the telephone through voice or text, or online via e-mail and chat.

In addition to providing direct services, reference staff produce a wide range of print and online tools designed to assist patrons in finding information on their own. Examples include research tutorials, subject pathfinders, and resource or skill guides.

Also staffing the Olin reference desk are Public Services Support Assistants who can assist with basic information questions and provide technical support for library computing and printing. For more advanced technology help please contact the CIT Helpdesk.
