Workshops in Olin & Uris Libraries:

1. Google Maps -- October 28, 2001, 10:00am-11:30am, Uris Library Classroom B05. This workshop targets audience that has little or no knowledge of the Google maps tool. It provides an introduction to basic navigation as well as acquaints the participants with the "My Maps" feature of Google Maps. Learn to record the locations of features such as houses, schools, and trails; change display styles, using a variety of icons and colors. We'll demonstrate some other free websites that can be used to bring in data from other sources, such as a list of addresses. You will need a Google Account in order to participate in the workshop. 2. Google Earth -- November 11, 2011, 10:00am-11:30am, Uris Library Classroom B05. This is an introductory level workshop showing how to use the Google Earth software, including navigation, tours, flight simulation, layers, and 3D visualization. Click here to register. Workshops in Mann Library:

1. Manifold GIS -- September 26, 2011, 1:30pm-3:30pm, Mann Library Stone Classroom. This workshop will cover the basic concepts of GIS mapping and analysis
using Manifold, a modern, low-cost, high-performance GIS application.
Learn how to import different types of data, perform basic spatial
analysis, and create maps. This workshop is intended for GIS novices,
and also for experienced ArcGIS users who want to learn the basics of
the Manifold interface.

2. ArcGIS I -- October 13, 2011, 2:00pm-4:00pm, Mann Library Stone Classroom.  Introduction to Geographic Information Systems. Prerequisite: Microsoft
Windows experience. This workshop consists of a brief overview of GIS
concepts followed by hands-on experience with GIS software (ArcGIS 9.2)
to create your own digital map. Learn to join tabular census data to GIS
data and construct a thematic map displaying demographic statistics
from the U.S. Census.

3. ArcGIS II -- October 20, 2011, 2:00pm-4:00pm, Mann Library, Stone Classroom. Learn one of several ways to add your own data to a GIS. This workshop
will begin with an overview of how to add data to a GIS (ArcGIS 9.2),
including general principles and finding an appropriate basemap.
Participants will then choose one or more of the following tutorials to
work on: adding GPS data; geocoding street addresses; joining tabular
data to existing geographic features; and georeferencing a scanned
image.
