What is a colophon?

The term, colophon, traditionally refers to a page of a printed book that conveys details about the manufacture and publication of the edition, such as typefaces, papers, inks and binding materials used in its production. A Web site colophon provides details about the production of the site, such as software used in designing the site or widely-available templates employed. Encoding and markup languages, plugins, widgets, browser compatibility standards, optimum viewing resolution, usability standards, and links to validation tests and ADA-compliance statements may also appear on Web colophons.
