Ronald Dowl Moore, Class of 1986

Ron D. Moore’s (b. 1964) love of science fiction began when he saw Star Trek reruns as a child. When revisiting those episodes was not enough, he sought out and devoured all the literature he could find on the storied 1960s science fiction television series. During his senior year as a government major at Cornell, Moore received an honorary mention in the Library’s Arthur H. Dean Book Collection Contest for his collection of Star Trek literature.

Three years after leaving Cornell, Moore sold his first script: an episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation. He went on to become a writer and producer on multiple Star Trek series. He also co-wrote two of the Star Trek: the Next Generation feature films, Star Trek Generations and Star Trek: First Contact.

In 2004 he began a tenure as the executive producer of the critically acclaimed re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica. An episode of the web series, “Battlestar Galactica: Razor Flashbacks,” earned Moore a Primetime Emmy.

Moore is currently producing an adaptation of the time travel series, Outlander, for Starz, and Helix, a science fiction series, for Syfy. Both are due to premiere in 2014.
