The Olin Library reference collection is a strong resource supporting research and instruction in the humanities and social sciences at Cornell. The collection contains almanacs, catalogs, general and subject encyclopedias, dictionaries, directories, periodical indexes, subject and national bibliographies, manuals, yearbooks, and biographical and statistical sources. The collection, arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification system, is located on Olin's main floor.
In addition to the print collection, Olin Library has an Electronic Text Center which houses over 300 CD-ROMs and DVDs such as the Anchor Bible Dictionary and a collection of Geolytics Census CD-ROMs. It is housed adjacent to the Reference desk in Olin Library. The Text Center's holdings are available through the library catalog. A browsable title list is also available from the Electronic Text Center's website.
A large number of subscription online research and reference works are available to Cornell students, faculty, and staff through Databases from the Library's home page. The full text of classic and current reference works like the Dictionary of National Biography, the Oxford English Dictionary, and the extensive International Encyclopedia of the Social and Behavioral Sciences are available to the Cornell community, not to mention access to a host of online periodical databases. Article search results are linked to our extensive collection of full-text journals, magazines, and news sources.
