Olin and Uris Libraries house Cornell’s largest collection of resources in the humanities and social sciences including maps, DVDs, newspapers, and microfilms, as well as select engineering and physical sciences materials. In addition to our comprehensive collections, we offer a range of services to assist the Cornell community and visiting researchers in their research, teaching and learning.

Olin and Uris Libraries’ public services departments include the Department of Access Services, the Department of Research and Learning Services, which includes the Map and Geospatial Unit, and Stacks Management. Our mission is to support and enhance the academic learning, teaching, and research activities of the College of Arts and Sciences, as well as all humanities and social sciences researchers and students across the University. To that end, we collaborate closely with the Africana, Fine Arts, and Music Libraries. We also support local, national and international researchers who use our collections. Read more about the mission and values of the RLS Department and the goals of the Access Services Department.

Our web site will guide you through our collections, services and policies. If you don’t find what you need, please feel free to contact us with a request. We also welcome suggestions for improvements and comments about Olin and Uris Libraries.

We have ongoing projects to improve the aesthetics and usability of both libraries. The Uris Addition (aka the Cocktail Lounge) is nearing the end of a months-long and much-needed renovation. The Digital CoLab has moved from the seventh floor of Olin to room 107 on the first-floor; the larger space accommodates expanded programming. And, we have begun a partnership with Cornell IT: the IT Service Desk is located on the lower level of Olin. We have recently upgraded seating in several areas of Olin and Uris, added interactive screens reflecting availability of laptops and other equipment, and continue to plan for future improvements, including adding collaborative study and instruction spaces.

If you would like to discuss any aspect of the Olin and Uris Libraries with me, please do not hesitate to contact me. I welcome your comments and suggestions.
